I have come to realize that a functional wardrobe depends on your lifestyle. Are you a working mom, a stay-at-home mom, always on the road, catching the next flight to another city or a homebody?. Whatever category you fall under, determines what your wardrobe would look like.
I think practicality, I think longevity, I think comfort over trend and I think personal style. These are the factors I take into consideration when building what I call a functional wardrobe. For me, that has evolved over time, depending on the stage of life I am in.

Closet Purge.
Recently, I did a major purge in both my clothing items and that of my husband’s because, I was just TIRED! Tired of seeing piles of clothing that didn’t fit into the stage of life I am currently in. It’s a way to restructure your pieces, and take account of what is necessary and not.
I work full time, with two days in the office, attending face to face work meetings, presenting etc. It is pertinent that I keep my corporate workwear handy, to serve my in-office days. I streamlined what was necessary for office days, and pulled them forward.
Next, I have been prioritizing daily walks. Hence, my workout clothes are being made accessible to pull. I am always on the go, and as a mom to two active boys, we have weekly activities that take me round town, and I need to be comfortable. Those are readily available to slip in and out of. With that being said, I streamlined my clothes to fit into these categories because they are my frequent activities.
Of course, I do not forget the weekend looks, for Sunday church, outing with the girls, date night etc. I made sure to keep what fits into this season of my life, and discarded what didn’t seem to me anymore. Then, I kept what I call my house dresses. Those pieces that I wear around the house to work, to cook, to clean etc.
Once you strictly stick to your key activities, there is a probability that you are on the right path to have what we call your functional wardrobe. A place where you have what you need to serve your clothing needs, while distancing your house from what can quickly turn into a clutter.
