A Glam Holiday Outfit.

New York and Company Sequin Sheath Dress

The holiday season and the festivities that come with it is my favorite time of the year, and putting holiday outfits together is also exciting especially a sequin dress.

Today’s blog post is all about the styling a sequin dress. It is all about the glitz, glam, shine, metallic etc as opposed to the last blog post where I shared pieces that are festive worthy but do not include sequins.

I took a poll on my Instagram asking if my audience like sequin pieces, and 33% said No. I am guessing it has to do with the popularity of the fabric which may sometimes come off cheap, or like someone indicated, it sticks to other fabrics a lot, which I see happening too.

However, sequin has not only become a festive/glamorous piece. It has continuously been an everyday look for the fashion girls.

This is a sequin open-back puff sleeve sheath dress from the Sparkle and Shine collection of New York & Company. It is in the color “thoughtful pink”, which is showcasing the hot pink trend with a retro feel. It is definitely an eye-catching, show stopping, star of the moment kind of dress.

I love that it has a conservative yet flattering style to it. The mock neck comes with three buttons at the back to secure it nicely, with an open back. The back gives off a flattering, flirty and fun look. It is not extremely revealing as the cut is strategic enough to not show excessive skin. The cut stop directly above the waist line, which has an elasticized band and the puff sleeves are long and full with a cuff.

Last year, I styled a full sequin look. An oversized sequin shirt and a sequin jogger pants. It was a mixed metal look of gold and silver. Surprisingly, people who did’t like sequin, loved the look and indicated an interest to try it out. As said earlier, a peice of cloth will look good on you or not depending on how well it is styled.

For this pink sequin dress, I decided to infuse a metallic feel to it, by accessorizing with these orange sandals. It was a hint of color blocking moment while keeping it festive. Metallic accessories are known for the powerful and bold statements. They are not considered minimal in some cases, that is why I thought it will bring more festive element to the entire look, creating a balance to the pink sequin dress.

Accessorizing with a rhinestone chandelier earrings certainly topped off the look. Kept my make up very minimal while keeping the focus on the dress.
