This is one question I get asked quite a lot. Real life friends and online friends keep asking how I get to work with brands and get PR packages sent to me.
I used to share some content creation tips in the past, and I think it’s time to answer this with one blog post.
I started sharing my love for makeup and skincare since 2017 and it’s not until 2019 thereabouts, that I started working with brands on paid and gifted opportunities. I had brands reaching out to me in 2018 and sending products on an exchange for post collaboration, using that to get my feet wet having just moved to the US.
My break came when I joined an app called Octoly, now known as Skeepers, to collaborate with brands on gifted purposes. This opened me up to more brands, that led to various paid partnerships for both skincare and clothing brands.
It snowballed to brands directly reaching and just gifting me more makeup, skincare and clothes because, I consistently shared about these across all my social media platforms.
Of course came TikTok, and then Flip,which was purely a skincare and makeup app. I got A LOT of connection with brands through the Flip app, got paid for creating content and also got paid for views. Through the Flip App, brands reached out to me directly, introducing themselves and working with me independently.
I continued to work with brands, sharing revamping my portfolio, signing up with brands and that’s how I have kept up with PRs, and brand collaborations.
User Generated Content (UGC), is also a great way to work with brands, get paid without having the obligation to post on your page. I shared my portfolio with brands on Twitter, and emails when they reached out, and it materialised into paid beauty content.
Another way has been when brands but my organic beauty content to share on their own platforms. That has been another source of income through content creation.
Finally, because I consistently share about makeup and skincare. Brands would continue to partner with me.
