how to narrow down your niche as a content creator

This has been one hot topic in the content creation sphere, as the ability to find your niche, gets you 60% of the work you have to do. Your niche is definitely one of the key notes you need to know before starting a blog. This may come easily for some, while some may find it difficult to narrow down.

On today’s blog post, I will share tips on how to know your niche and how to narrow it down.

Finding your niche comes easy once you tap into what you love the most, what you enjoy doing, or what you spend some of your time doing. Eg. If you love decorating or DIYs, you can create your niche surrounding those activities. If you love thrifting or shopping for clothes in general, your niche will be centered around fashion and how to style clothing items.

Converting your hobby into your niche is the easiest way to find it. The internet is saturated with people doing what you love, and that shouldn’t deter you from doing yours, just do it your way. You may love multiple things but it’s better to narrow down to bits of them. While I love fashion, I also love to decorate and organize my house. Most of my content surrounds fashion and beauty, that’s why you won’t see anything about home decor on my blog because I niched down to fashion and beauty. While I share some organizing tips on my Instagram page, it’s 1 out of 10 times compared to how much I share about fashion.

Narrowing down your niche is as important as finding your niche. Although my niche is fashion, beauty and styling, it is indeed a broad niche as I cannot cover all that involves fashion but I have narrowed my niche down to simple styling, modern with a mix of vintage (thrifted items). While some don’t have thrifting as part of their niche, that doesn’t mean fashion ins’t their niche, they just don’t thrift like me. Same rule apples to DIYs and home decor niches. You can never cover every single ground on DIY, so it’s best to narrow down your DIY to what you really love and enjoy doing.

It is easier to write on what you love than write on something because everyone is. Your ideas will flow better although there will be times where you will struggle a bit on what to write but you will sound natural when you write on what you love. This however, this doesn’t mean you can’t touch on informational topics like this post which is independent of a fashion and beauty. Posts like these tend to also educate your audience.

Having a narrowed down niche, also helps build a reliable audience and you become a resource on that topic. Writing on everything and nothing in particular, makes you loose that genuine juice and in turn, that will cost you your audience. Having a niche also helps and exposes you to more brand collaborations as these brands begin to know exactly what your content is about.
