skincare benefits of using Bakuchiol

As complex as the word hyperpigmentation sounds, it is a common skincare concern that most, if not everyone suffers from. Whether yours is from acne, sun burn or scarring, it is a skincare problem that 99% of people deal with in both sex.

On today’s blog post, I will be sharing easy ways to avoid and treat hyperpigmentation.

By definition, hyperpigmentation is a skin condition that makes some areas of your skin darker than others. In most cases, they appear in form of acne scarring, black spots, large or small patches. It is prevalent in people with all skin types and all ages. However, people with darker skin tone tend to suffer it more because of the melanin in our skin.

Hyperpigmentation also known as discoloration, is caused by a variety of factors and some are easily avoidable. Examples are medication side effects, UV damage, harsh chemical on the skin e.g bleaching agents, breakouts, pregnancy and hormonal imbalance.

The first and easy way to treat it is by constantly using sunscreen. Adequate sun protection helps diminish the appearance of hyperpigmentation which will gradually fade dark spots and patches. By blocking the UV rays, you reduce the chances of producing more pigment in your skin. Avoid direct sun exposure, wear hats and sunblock of SPF 30 and higher.

Topical skincare brighteners like Niacinamide and Vitamin C is another way to combat it. Skincare products that are rich in B Vitamins, naturally brighten and improve an even skin tone. Please do not mistaken brighteners to skin bleaching products as those contain Hydroquinone which is a harmful chemical. Niacinamide is one of my favorite skincare ingredient which helps improve my skin tone.

Exfoliating regularly is also a great way to treat hyperpigmentation. By doing so, you replace the dead skin cells with newer and brighter looking skin. Introducing gentle chemical exfoliants like Dermalogica Daily Mircofoliant or the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser, can enhance and increase the rate of skin cell renewal. Vitamin C and glycolic acid are also good exfoliants. Introducing Vitamin C to your daily skincare routine, will definitely help.

Retinols are considered good hyperpigmentation treatments. It is a higher potency form of Vitamin C, which helps with wrinkles and anti aging factors. Be warned that retinol exposes your skin to high sun sensitivity, so it is advisable to use it only at night. However, Backuchiol is a natural alternative to retinol which is safer to apply during daytime and it also helps combat hyperpigmentation, fine Lins and wrinkles.
